MERCER BOWL 3, CHICCARINO'S 1

SHENANGO TOWNSHIP -- Defending league champion Mercer Bowl earned its first win of 2008 Thursday night by pulling out a 3-1 victory over host Chiccarino's at COG.

Dave Bodien doubled and scored to lead the Mercer Bowl offense. Winning pitcher Jim Kopan scattered eight hits over seven innings. Kopan struck out a pair and walked one.

Chiccarino's closed to within 2-1 in the fourth inning and had the bases loaded with no one out. However, Kopan worked out of the jam to preserve the lead.

Kevin Faber doubled and singled for Chiccarino's (0-1) while Seth Terlecky singled twice. Pitcher Ryan Briggs allowed just three hits and no earned runs in seven innings. Briggs fanned one and walked none.
